Fake nails originally referred to nail extensions made using a hard gel product hardened by curing under a ultraviolet or L.E.D. (light emitting diode) light. However, recent use of the phrase includes just about any nail service performed involving the use of gel products, including the very popular gel polish manicure. There are two types of gel, hard gel and soft gel. Hard gel gets its name because, once cured, is tough enough to be made into a nail extension. Nail extensions are artificial nails created by using a nail product to extend the nail past the edge of the natural nail. Soft gel refers to the gel products that are too soft to create a nail extension. This includes gel polishes and thicker gels meant for gel overlay services. Gel polishes are used for the increasingly popular gel polish manicures. These manicures, when done by caring, experienced, and trained professionals, are gentle to the natural nail and the polish stays intact on the nail for at least a couple of weeks with high shine and no cracking, peeling or chipping.
The product used to create nail extensions using gel or Gel nails is gel, not to be confused with acrylic nails which are created using liquid monomer and polymer powder. All gel services are performed using some form of gel which usually come in pots of gel or bottles of gel polish. Gel also comes in a variety of colors and all forms of gel require curing under a U.V. or L.E.D. light to harden or cure the gel. Curing refers to the chemical process that occurs when the photo-initiators within the gel itself are exposed to the U.V. or L.E.D. light. The chain reaction creates heat while the oligomers combine to form long chains during the polymerization process. These bonded chains are what makes the gel become hard and it's the photo-initiators within the gel product that jump starts the curing process. Usually, once the nail extension has been created there is a residual tacky layer that is removed by wiping with a cotton pad soaked in high concentrate alcohol at the end of the service.
Acrylic nails are a more common form of artificial nails and may also be referred to as "liquid and powder nails". They have been around for decades whereas gel nail products are still a very recent addition to the nail industry. The most popular acrylic nail service is the pink and white which refers to the use of pink colored acrylic and a white acrylic powder to create a long-lasting French manicure look. Just as with gel nails, acrylic nail extension can be created using forms to create sculpted nails or tips. Forms are special stickers that are placed at the end of each finger, under the finger nail, and secured in place so that wet acrylic can be sculpted into a nail extension at the fingernail's edge. Thus, each nail extension is sculpted and why this procedure is referred to as "sculpts" or "sculpted nails." Tips are simply mass produced plastic nail tips that are adhered to the fingernail's edge using nail resin. Each tip is clipped and filed into shape before applying the wet acrylic and the nail extension is made. Fiberglass and silk wraps are overlay services. This means that a product is laid on top of or "overlaid" onto the existing natural nail. These products are not strong enough to create into extensions so they can only be laid over existing nails. In this scenario, the manicurist will cut pieces of fiberglass or silk and then adhere to the nail with a type of resin. This service is often used in cases of broken nails or to strengthen the natural nail.

Though the usage of methyl methacrylate has been outlawed, ethyl methacrylate is continued to be used for artificial nails, and can cause contact dermatitis, asthma, and allergies in the eyes and nose. Nail salon workers also face exposures to other chemicals used, such as toluene, dibutyl phthalate, and formaldehyde.

In woodworking and construction, a nail is a pin-shaped object of metal (or wood, called a treenail or "trunnel") which is used as a fastener, as a peg to hang something, or sometimes as a decoration. Generally nails have a sharp point on one end and a flattened head on the other, but headless nails are available. Nails are made in a great variety of forms for specialized purposes. The most common is a wire nail. Other types of nails include pins, tacks, brads, and spikes.

Nails are typically driven into the workpiece by a hammer, a pneumatic nail gun, or a small explosive charge or primer. A nail holds materials together by friction in the axial direction and shear strength laterally. The point of the nail is also sometimes bent over or clinched after driving to prevent pulling out. To make a wrought-iron nail, iron ore was heated with carbon (to create wrought iron) and shaped into square rods. To make a nail, a blacksmith would heat the rod in a forge and taper the end of the bar while keeping the cross section square. Next, the smith would cut off the taper, and insert it into a nail heading tool with a square hole. The top of the taper would be hammered downward (upset) to create a head. Nails date back at least to Ancient Egypt — bronze nails found in Egypt have been dated 3400 BC. The Bible provides a number of references to nails, including the story in Judges of the woman who drives a nail into the temple of a Canaanite commander while he is asleep, the provision of iron for nails by King David for Solomon's Temple, and the crucifixion of Christ.

The Romans made extensive use of nails, evidenced for example by the seven tons of nails left behind by the Roman army at the fortress of Inchtuthil in Perthshire in the United Kingdom. The term “penny”, as it refers to nails, probably originated in medieval England to describe the price of 100 nails. Nails themselves were sufficiently valuable and standardized to be used as an informal medium of exchange. The letter “d”, which stands for penny, is derived from the Latin name of the Roman coin, the denarius. Until around 1800, nails were made by hand, and were provided by an artisan known as a nailer or nailor. There were workmen called slitters who cut up iron bars to a suitable size for nailers to work on. From the late 16th century, manual slitters disappeared with the rise of the slitting mill, which cut bars of iron into rods with an even cross-section, saving much manual effort.

At the time of the American Revolution, England was the largest manufacturer of nails in the world. Nails were expensive and difficult to obtain in the American colonies, so that abandoned houses were sometimes deliberately burned down to allow recovery of used nails from the ashes. Families often had small nail manufacturing setups in their homes; during bad weather and at night, the entire family might work at making nails for their own use and for barter. Thomas Jefferson wrote in a letter, “In our private pursuits it is a great advantage that every honest employment is deemed honorable. I am myself a nail maker.” The growth of the trade in the American colonies was theoretically held back by the prohibition of new slitting mills in America by the Iron Act, though there is no evidence that the Act was actually enforced. The production of wrought iron nails continued well into the 19th century, but ultimately was reduced to nails for purposes for which the softer cut nails were unsuitable, including horseshoe nails. From the very beginning, nails were handmade; the nail-making process was slow; and nails were relatively few and expensive. This naturally produced a desire to create machines to speed up and automate the nail-making process. The slitting mill, introduced to England in 1590, had simplified the production of nail rods, but the real first efforts to mechanise the nail-making process itself occurred between 1790 and 1820, initially in the United States and England, when various machines were invented to automate and speed up the process of making nails from bars of wrought iron. These nails were known as cut nails or square nails because of their roughly rectangular cross section. Cut nails were one of the important factors in the increase in balloon framing beginning in the 1830s and thus the decline of timber framing with wooden joints.

Fake Nails Designs Biography

Artificial nails, also known as fake nails, false nails, fashion nails, nail enhancements, or nailextensions, are coverings placed over fingernails as fashion accessories. Some artificial nailsattempt to mimic the appearance of real fingernails as closely as possible, while other designs may deliberately stray in appearance from real fingernails. Artificial nails are made from a wide variety of materials. The artificial nails are not a replacement, but an extension for natural nails. There are two main approaches to creating artificial nails—tips and forms. Tips are made of lightweight plastic plates that are "nail"-shaped. They are glued on the end of the natural nail and acrylic is then applied over the entire nail. Tips are now available in many different colors and designs, ranging from simple colors such as yellow or blue to flamboyant designs such as animal prints and mixed metallic colors. Forms are fitted over the nail and then an artificial nail is molded out of acrylic and the form is removed and then properly shaped and buffed to a shine. There are several popular techniques that can be used to create longer, better-looking nail enhancements.

One popular material commonly called "Polymethyl methacrylate acrylics" is a mixture of a polymer powder and a liquid monomer (e.g. ethyl methacrylate). The mixture starts to harden in 20–30 seconds after application and continues to cure to final hardness typically within fifteen minutes. Powder and liquid acrylics can be removed by using a variety of solvents (usually acetone is used). Usually it takes 20 to 30 minutes to remove the nail while using a nail file to help take off each layer of the artificial nail. Another material, commonly called "UV Top Coat" (in correct chemical terms a polymer resin) hardens under ultraviolet light. Depending on brand these can show a broader variety of quality and properties (flexibility, strength, etc.) but may be more expensive. They generally cannot be removed by organic solvents, but only be removed by filing (or left to grow out with the natural nail). There are, however, a variety of soak off UV gels which can be quickly and easily removed using acetone.

Another popular alternative to acrylic or gel preparations are fiberglass or silk wraps. They are done by cutting pieces of actual fiberglass or silk fabric to fit on the surface of the nail or tip and then it is sealed down with a resin or glue. These are a possible alternative for those who are allergic to chemicals used in the acrylic or gel process. These sort of treatments are commonly used to protect the nails if they have been broken. The silk or fiberglass overlay acts as a false layer of nail and thus protects the nail plate from splitting or becoming damaged any further. Other materials can be used, as well as combinations of them. There are also temporary, cheaper flexible tips that can be quickly glued at home without help from a professional. Acrylic nailpowders are available in a variety of colours and can use "special effects" such as contours, sparkles and the very popular French manicure (pink or tan and white appearance). Acrylic nailshelp conceal or fix broken, damaged, short, or bad nails. It also helps prevent people from biting their nails, breakage of nails, and protect splits. They are used when people are not able to grow the length and strength of natural nails that they desire. This problem can be solved by using certain nail techniques such as nail tipping, sculptured nails, nail wrapping, or acrylic overlays. However Acrylic nails usually make natural nails weak, thin, and breakable when removed. If fitted properly, artificial nails are usually not problematic. However long term use and poorly fitted nailscan seriously damage the nail bed and hamper natural nail growth.
The most common problem associated with artificial nails is a bacterial infection that may develop between the false and natural nail. When artificial nails are applied to the natural nail surface, minor types of trauma to the artificial nails which can happen from something as harmless as scraping a nail against a firm surface can cause separation of the nail from its nail bed. This allows bacteria and fungus to potentially enter the separated area setting up an infection. In fact, some hospitals won't allow their employees to have fake fingernails due to the risk of harboring infection which could be transmitted to patients.

Reiner Knizia's best-selling design is probably The Lord of the Rings, a cooperative game published in 2000 in which players work together to destroy the Ring and eliminate its evil influence while Sauron is trying to corrupt them. More than 500 of Knizia's games and books have been published. Among the most notable of his games are Lost Cities, a two-player card game with an archaeological theme; Modern Art, an auction game about collecting art; Ra, an auction game with an Egyptian theme; Taj Mahal, a board game set in the famous Indian monument; and Tigris and Euphrates, set at the beginning of civilization. Knizia has published numerous game-related books, including Blazing Aces! (2007, Convivium Publications and FRED Distribution), Dice Games Properly Explained (1999, Elliott Right Way Books), and New Games in Old Rome (1996, Reaching Moon), along with a number of German-language books such as Das große Buch der Würfelspiele (2000, Hugendubel and Weltbild), Kartenschach (2000, Berliner Spielkarten), Kartenspiele im Wilden Westen (1995, Hugendubel), Neue Spiele im alten Rom (1994, Hugendubel and Piatnik) and Neue Taktikspiele mit Würfeln und Karten (1990, Hugendubel). Knizia has designed several video games and apps for mobile devices, including Dr. Reiner Knizia's Brainbenders (known by various titles depending on the country of sale) for the Nintendo DS and Labyrinth for the iPad. Numerous apps based on board games and card games by Knizia are also available.
Knizia's first two fully published games were Goldrausch (published by Hans im Glück) and Digging (Hexagames), both released in 1990. Prior to that, several of his game designs were published in magazines. He also designed a handful of postal games between 1985 and 1987. Here is my list of the best games designed by Reiner Knizia. Ra is on my list of the best auction games, along with two other Knizia designs: Hollywood Blockbuster (aka Traumfabrik) and Modern Art. Keltis, also known as Lost Cities: The Board Game, won the Spiel des Jahres in 2008. Several of Knizia's games have won the Deutscher Spiele Preis: Amun-Re in 2003, Taj Mahal in 2000, Tigris and Euphrates in 1998, and Modern Art in 1993. Lost Cities won the Gamers Choice Award for Best Two-Player Game in 2000. Knizia was born in Germany in 1957. Knizia, a full-time game designer since 1997, holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Ulm in Germany. He also earned a Master of Science from Syracuse University. According to Knizia's official web site, more than 13 million copies of his games and books have been sold worldwide. Since the development of these early definitions, art theorists have emphasized the role of artistic intent (of author or curator) and further definitions have emerged from both the art world and the video game world that draw a clear distinction between the "art game" and its predecessor, "video game art." At the core of the matter for all definitions, however, lies an intersection between art and thevideo game. Easily confused with its often non-interactive sibling art form video game art, and the concept of video games as an art form(irrespective of artistic intent), the essential position that art games take in relation to video games is analogous with the position thatart film takes in relation to film.

The main product is acrylic nails with ready-made designs which can be stuck on top of natural nails. Nail polish, or nail varnish, is a lacquer applied to human fingernails or toenails to decorate and/or protect the nail. By the turn of the 9th century, nails were tinted with scented red oils, and polished or buffed with a chamois cloth, rather than simply polished. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, people pursued a polished rather than painted look by massaging tinted powders and creams into their nails, then buffing them shiny. After the creation of automobile paint, Cutex produced the first modern nail polish in 1917. Synthetic nail polish was introduced in the 1920s in Paris. It is just under the free edge, in that portion of the nail where the nail bed ends and can be recognized by its glassy, greyish colour (in fair-skinned people). It is not visible in some individuals while it is highly prominent on others. The eponychium is the small band of epithelium that extends from the posterior nail wall onto the base of the nail. Often and erroneously[contradictory] called the "proximal fold" or "cuticle", the eponychium is the end of the proximal fold that folds back upon itself to shed an epidermal layer of skin onto the newly formed nail plate.
